Catch-Up

I think about blogging a lot, and then when I go to do it, I have bloggers block. Well, Grandpappie wants to read something while at work, so here it goes!

Yesterday, Sam had her 2 month check up. She is growing SO fast! She weighs 11 pds 4 oz and is 23 1/2 inches long! The poor baby had to get 4 vaccines yesterday by shot and one by mouth. She was not a happy camper at all! She cried for about 10 minutes and then passed out. She was pretty good until Mom and I got to the mall to shop and then she started screaming! The women who worked in the store thought that she was a colicy baby. We had to explain probably 5 times that she just had her shots. Poor baby. Grandma is the perfect pillow, though. :) But, so far, she is better today!
So back to shopping. Mom and I went to Destination Maternity to get a swim suit. Normally, I would have bucked it up and not bothered to pay for ANOTHER swimsuit that won't fit me ever again unless I get pregnant over the summer which I plan on NEVER doing...run on sentence but I wanted you to get the out of breath feel that I get when I think about being pregnant during STL's heat...
Right so where was I...oh yes, we went to Destination Maternity because just last Saturday we went to the "regular" stores and NOTHING fit. But we were successful at DM and I'm happy. And it was on sale, so my mom was happy too! :) We also bought some shirts for me so I stop wearing my maternity shirts. I think I've lost enough weight to where people will just think I have a beer belly. Greeeeeaaaat. But still no need for maternity shirts. That is probably all the motivation I need to get this stomach back in tip top shape!

Ugh, now its time for me to go on my rant rage...Since the moment I got pregnant, my face has broken out into this awful stuff called adult acne (ba ba bummmmm). I hate it. I'm done with it. I want to move on. Yes, its hormonal, but I want to be able to control it as much as possible. Since I can't do that with birth control because the good stuff will dry out my skin, I have to do it with good face products. So, I went to Sephora yesterday, bought all organic face care and retinol in hopes that in a couple weeks, I will at least have my break outs under control. I hope.

Ok, back to Sam. :)

She has been a talking machine. Her favorite words are "oooo" and "a-gooo", but she has started putting in "waaa" and "wooo" as well! She is also starting to laugh a little. She gets so smiley and then lets out this puff of air. We LOVE it! :) It is so fun to see her do something new every day! She is also starting to try to sit up. She will lift her neck and we will help her sit up the rest of the way.
The other day, she gave Greg the puppy dog look for the first time. I already know that I'm going to be the disciplinarian in the family because she already has him wrapped around her fingers. He gave in to her puppy dog look and she didn't even WANT anything yet. Oh boy.

On to Finnegan...

He's been eating the carpet. Great. I think its because he smells spit up on it (even though we clean it up), and wants to eat it. Greg thinks he is acting out. Its probably both.

Growing so FAST!

Its official. Our baby girl is now a Bum Genius user. She went from newborn onsies to 3 month clothes in a matter of MINUTES!
As much as we want our baby girl to grow to that talkative, run around toddler that we know she is going to be, we are loving the stage that she is at now. She has now replaced her blank stares with focusing and following objects, cooing at Mommy after feedings (I belive that its her way of saying "thank you"), and is usually awake more than she is asleep.
We have to say, we are proud of our little daughter. She is sleeping through the night...6-7 hours! She is AMAZING! :)
When Grammie comes over, she has Sam work hard on her tummy time. (Mommy is not so good at doing that with her yet...) Sam can handle it for about 5 minutes! Pretty good!!!
Our baby is growing faster than we would like, but we are loving every minute of it!!!

Eye Opener...

I was busy making my lunch today when I heard the dog across the alley barking.  Not unusual. (the dog is annoying...)  Then she started barking furiously.  When I looked out the window there was a little girl, no older than 8, on her bike FLICKING the dog off.  Really?  You're going to flick a dog off?  Really?  You're 8 years old!!!  Who taught that to you and why does your MOTHER think its ok that you know something like that???
Obviously this dog does not like you by her property.  Please leave.  So she started to ride away on her bike.  She must have decided that she wasn't done with the dog and got off her bike and started yelling at the dog.  Ok, that I understand.  And the dog stopped barking (for a second).  I don't know what the girl said, but that dog is obnoxious.  ALWAYS barking.  Then she walked away.  The dog didn't stop.  So she proceeded to go back to the house and she STARTED CLIMBING THE FENCE.
I step in.  I open our door.  Finnegan charges for the fence (he HAS to know why that dog is barking so much).  I tell the little girl that she needs to get off and continue to ride her bike.  She doesn't live there and that is not her dog.  She needs to move on.  She does. And she watches me the whole time.

Its scary what kids know now.  I don't think I knew what "flicking off" was.  My middle finger was just the tallest finger when I was 8.  It had no meaning.
I'm pretty aware what kids know.  I have worked with them since I was 15.  I'm not dumb.  They're not dumb.  But its still an eye opener everytime.

Being a mother is a very busy job.  The day flies by and you don't even realize that its dinner time because the last time you looked at the clock, it was lunch time. (and whoops, between feedings and diaper changes and naps, you forgot to eat!)  There are many days that the word, Mom, is not even in my vocabulary because I don't realize that I am one.

Then there is a day like today.  I am extremely exhausted because Greg and I are not getting to bed on time.  Feeding Sam is a blur.  But then she falls asleep on me.  I look down as she is snoring away on my stomach and think, "gosh, I'm the luckiest Mom alive".  Because I am.  With a little touch from Greg and me, God has made a beautiful little girl that I can proudly say is my daughter.  And what's even better, I can proudly say I'm her Mom.  :)

2 Week Check Up

Sam and I went to see Dr. Plax today.  She is was a complete doll the entire time.  She is now 8 pounds 11 ounces.  She is 21 3/4 inches long.  She is just a growing machine.  Dr. Plax was completely impressed with her.  He says she is growing beautifully and told me that we did not have to wake her up in the middle of the night for a feeding.  Like I would anyway.  But that is good to hear!

Greg and I have been working really hard to get Sam to sleep most of the night.  We keep her up near the end of the evening and attempt to feed her as much as possible in that time.  (Maybe that's why she is growing so quickly!)  For a while, it worked.  Now, not so much.  She seems to think that her bedtime is now 8:30 or so and then wakes up around 2.  Its nice to know she has a 6 hour stretch...now if we could only get her to consistently have it from 10-4.  How glorious would that be?!

I have truly enjoyed all the help that I have received during the day with Sam.  My mom has volunteered to come Monday and Wednesday and Greg's mom has volunteered her Tuesday and Thursday.  Each week.  Pretty awesome.  Now I have to find stuff to do while they are here...like SLEEEEEEP!!!

Samantha Marie

Samantha Marie Berger was born at 3:19 am on May 11, 2009.  She shares a birthday with two wonderful people, Courtney and Mike.  Sorry Grandpappie, she apparently did not like the birthday of May 1st.  I think its because she just didn't KNOW you yet!!!

Its been an adjustment being a Mom.  Everytime I think I have time to do something I don't.  She either wakes up or cries for something.  Like right now.  Post more later!!!

Today is the day...

Its May 6th.  Where is our baby?!?!?!  That's all I've got.
